The Vikings traveled and traded throughout the world, and this led to interactions with different cultures, languages and religions.
In 1954, a bronze Buddha statue was discovered in a viking era settlement on the isle of Helgö in Sweden. The statue turned out to date back to the 6th century AD, and is believed to be one of these trade exchanges. It is today known as the Viking Age Buddha, and has been depicted on a Sweden post stamp in 2015 as part of a series commemorating the Era of Vikings.
